There is always a lot of talk about "Who is the best in College Football?" and "How can we tell?" Well here are the teams that are all talk so far and the teams who have proven it on the field. For me, PROVING IT, means a team has beaten quality teams and has played well in tough environments. This list will heavily favor road wins against top teams.

prove it college football rankings

PROVE IT

2 MIAMI - All home wins for the Canes so far. This team has beaten two good teams, but those "good teams" are 24th ranked Notre Dame and unranked South Florida. I respect both of those wins, but it isn't enough yet. Miami has a very weak schedule going forward. They go to Florida State in two weeks for maybe their last test of the regular season.

3 PENN STATE - 3 home wins against absolute nobodies. Penn State hasn't played a top 100 team yet, but is receiving so much love. Not for me yet. PROVE IT.

4 LSU - The Tigers got a ton of credit for their win in the original Death Valley, but the two "big" wins they have continue to look worse and worse. Clemson and Florida are both 1-3 and really don't look very good. Unfortunately for the Tigers, those wins are not "big wins" anymore. I still want to see them PROVE IT.

6 OREGON - The Ducks haven't played a top 50 team yet and have only gone on the road once. This team is about the farthest thing from tested. They look good so far, but certainly still need to PROVE IT.

8 FLORIDA STATE - The 'Noles looked great at home against Alabama in week 1, but that isn't enough yet. They don't have a tough road game unless Clemson figures things out and gets going. It will be hard for the 'Noles to PROVE IT.

PROVEN

5 GEORGIA - It wasn't pretty, but it was a road win in one of the toughest places to play in all of sports. Georgia PROVED IT by beating Tennessee 44-41. They get Alabama at home next week and go to Auburn on October 11.

7 Oklahoma - hasn't had to travel yet, but beating Michigan and Auburn are two solid wins. The Sooners look very good under Mateer who has become the favorite for the Heisman trophy. Mateer is one of the only highly touted QBs who has played very well all year thus far. The Sooners have PROVEN IT.

9 Texas A&M - The best win of the season so far belongs to the Aggies. They went to South Bend and got revenge on an angry Irish team. PROVED IT.

12 Texas Tech - The Red Raiders just went on the road and PROVED IT against a very tough Utah team. The Red Raiders are looking solid so far and have another tough test coming at Houston. Texas Tech will likely be favored by a little more than a touchdown.
